Council Update – November 2025

University Council met last week, with its November meeting consisting of a number of annual and regulatory items, including approval of the University’s 2024-25 Financial Statements.

The Financial Plan 2025 was discussed and approved, as was the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Council was updated on the support provision for students affected by the recent fire in one of the campus residence blocks and extended its thanks to all those involved for their tireless work during and after the incident.

Members welcomed a presentation showcasing the work of the Warwick Institute of Engagement. An initial strategic discussion was held on the Government post-16 Education & Skills White Paper, which will be covered in more depth at the annual Council Strategy Day in February 2026.

Council Update – October 2025

Warwick’s University Council convened for its first meeting of the academic year, starting the year with a focus on education excellence and the student experience.

Council welcomed the positive 2025 student admissions outcome and high student satisfaction reflected in the National Student Survey results. Members also requested further insight into academic and pastoral support, especially in light of growing student cohorts.

Members engaged in a strategic discussion with the Chief Executive Officer of the Russell Group, exploring global and UK developments in Higher Education and their implications for Warwick’s future. An update on the University’s Financial Plan was given. The final Plan would be brought back to the November meeting for approval.

The Students’ Union Sabbatical Officers presented their priorities for 2025–26, indicating opportunities to collaborate with the University on delivering an outstanding student experience.
