Apprenticeships Oversight Panel (formerly Apprenticeship and Work-based Learning Steering Group)

In July 2024, following the 2024 Academic Governance Review, the University Senate and Council approved that the Apprenticeship and Work-based Learning Steering Group should be renamed to the Apprenticeships Oversight Panel.

    Purpose:

    The Apprenticeships Oversight Panel has overall responsibility for the delivery of apprenticeships at the University of Warwick, including the performance of programmes, adherence to regulations, the development of apprenticeship provision, and the safeguarding of apprentices. It provides assurance to the Quality and Standards Subcommittee and other committees that apprenticeships provision is appropriately managed and to provide challenge, where necessary, to ensure quality assurance is robust.

    Report to: Quality and Standards Subcommittee

    To approve:

    1. Plans and processes to assure the quality and standards of the University’s apprenticeship provision including the development and monitoring of the institutional SAR and QIP.

    2. Plans for the delivery of apprenticeships that are meeting the requirements and expectations of external quality assurance and regulatory bodies.

     

    To recommend:

    3. To the [Quality and Standards Subcommittee] steer and advice on the development of institutional strategy and policy on apprenticeship provision.

    4. To the [Quality and Standards Subcommittee] the diversification of the University’s educational offer through the development of sector-leading apprenticeships in a joined-up and coherent way.

    5. To the [Quality and Standards Subcommittee] the annual Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)

     

    To receive:

    6. Updates [from the Apprenticeships Quality Assurance Group] on the quality of apprenticeship provision at the University of Warwick, including outcomes for apprentices, summaries of external examiner reports, outcomes of review activity, and the escalation of risks associated with degree apprenticeship provision for the purpose of being accountable for the quality of degree apprenticeship provision.

    7. Reports [from the Apprenticeship and Work-based Learning Operations and Compliance Group] on the University of Warwick’s compliance with degree apprenticeship external regulatory requirements for the purpose being accountable for the university’s regulatory requirements.

    8. Reports [from the Curriculum Approval Panel] on the approval of new degree apprenticeship courses for information.

    9. Routine and exceptional reports [from Wellbeing Support Services] about safeguarding issues.

     

    To report:

    10. [To Quality and Standards Subcommittee] on current and future developments in apprenticeships and their alignment with University strategy and policy.

    11. [To Quality and Standards Subcommittee] on the effective discharge of the University’s responsibilities for safeguarding in the delivery of apprenticeships.

    12. [To Quality and Standards Subcommittee] on the external landscapes to ensure Warwick’s provision is responsive to regional and national contexts.

     

    The Apprenticeships Oversight Panel will report to the Quality and Standards Subcommittee.
