Honorary Graduates of the University and Chancellor's Medallists

The University awards honorary degrees to individuals of high intellectual or cultural distinction or those who have served the University or the community. These are typically awarded during the University's degree congregations held in January and July each year.

The Chancellor's Medal is also awarded at graduation ceremonies and is an honour given to exceptional people who have played a major role in serving Warwick and making it and maintaining it as a pre-eminent centre of academic excellence.

As provided for under University Ordinance 9 and Regulation 20, the honorary degrees of Doctor of Laws (LLD), Doctor of Letters (DLitt) and Doctor of Science (DSc) shall be conferred upon persons of high intellectual or cultural distinction.

Thursday 18 July am ceremony

Major General Tim Hodgetts CBE 

Will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science for pioneering a new approach in emergency and disaster medicine, serving communities at all levels. Tim is the Surgeon General for the UK Armed Forces and Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands.

Vita Sanderson 

Will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science for humanitarian engineering and commitment to improving school and health facilities. Vita is an award-winning structural engineer who has used her knowledge and expertise in humanitarian projects around the world.

Vanessa Vallely

Friday 19 July am ceremony

Vanessa Vallely 

Will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science in of her role as trailblazer for gender parity in Financial Services and establishing ‘WeAreThe City’, a hugely successful network that creates opportunities and upskilling for women to progress and excel in their careers.

Phil O'Donovan

Friday 19 July am ceremony

Dr Phil O’Donovan 

Warwick alumnus, engineer and one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs, Phil will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science in recognition of the mentoring, investment and development of engineering innovation to so many across the UK.

Mahmoud Mohieldin

Tuesday 23 July am ceremony

Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin 

Warwick alumnus Mahmoud will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science in recognition of his role leading reforms across Egypt and addressing climate change challenges.

Karamjit Singh

Wednesday 24 July am ceremony

Karamjit Singh 

Warwick alumnus and former member of the University Council, Karamjit will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of his achievements in the medical field, both in the NHS in the UK and medical camps in India.

Professor Tim Lang

Thursday 25 July am ceremony

Professor Tim Lang 

Tim will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science in recognition of his work on food policy in the UK and worldwide. Tim is an internationally renowned expert on food policy, known as ‘the man who invented food miles’.

Professor Stéphane Udry 

Will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science, in recognition of his pioneering research in the field of exoplanets.
