How do I encrypt with a gpg key on the new system?

You can, but because the default location of .gnupg does not support sockets, you will get an error as if your gpg key is not present. This can be solved by putting your .gnupg directory in '$LOCALHOME' and then setting the environment variable 'GNUPGHOME' to '$LOCALHOME/.gnupg'.
