What is the purpose of the "ln" directory in home?

When you log on to the new Linux Desktop, you will have a folder called "ln" created in your home directory. This folder is linked to one of the same name in your localhome and is provided for convienience, changes are mirrored across the folders, so deleting something in one folder will delete it in the other. The contents of folder are NOT BACKED UP. if you delete the folder it will automatically recreate an empty version on your next logon.

This folder allows you to create symbolic links and sockets in your home directory, and provides an area that is not subject to the limitations of the rest of the home directory. Unfortunately it also does not provide any of the benefits, such as being backed up, accessible from off campus, or following you to a different machine.
