Campus Network Service

Service Description

The campus network provides the data network to the buildings around the University. It consists of three layers.

  • Edge (Access) providing the connection from your desktop / laptop to the network, this currently runs at 1Gb.
  • Distribution which provides the access from your building to the rest of campus (and the internet), this runs at 4Gb.
  • Core that acts as the central hub for the network, this runs at 80Gb.

The campus network provides access to about {12,000} devices.

To enable work to be done on the campus network, there is an 'At Risk' time which is Tuesday mornings between 7am and 9am. We will announce any outages beforehand.

All standard requests are either handled through the Service Desk

Charges

The campus network is free at the point of use. If a new wall port is required, an infrastructure cost will be incurred. If you require more network switches for expansion, these will also be charged for, please contact us for up to date costs associated with this.

Availability

This service is available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, apart for periods of non-availability required for planned maintenance. Support for the service is available during standard support hours (8:30 - 17:30 Monday to Thursday, 8:30 - 16:30 Friday).
