Team Warwick win 45 – 23!

Varsity 2017 kicked off to a great start as #TeamWarwick bring home the wins in the first Varsity fixtures, with Pool winning 37-33 and Snooker, who, after a fierce battle, took home the points for Team Warwick with a 13 -7 victory.

We lost the Cricket match, but made up for it with a great win for Warwick Riding and a tie between Women’s Badminton, before we lost the Rugby League match 4 - 46. Things started to get a little tight as we came into the Ice Hockey Varsity opening game on Thursday 23 February, which we lost. Team Warwick found another gear and managed to beat Coventry University in seven out of the ten matches on Friday, with a continued successful run on Saturday which led us into a very secure position of 37 – 19, marking it an unofficial 27th win for the University of Warwick.

Sunday saw Varsity come to a close with wins from Women’s and Men’s Football, Lacrosse and Athletics, however the fierce battle between the Rugby players at the Ricoh Arena, we unfortunately lost 15 – 17. Disappointment in the Grand Finale, but a truly crushing performance from #TeamWarwick all-round, made 2017 another great year.

Off the playing fields and on them, the support across all of the clubs, societies and staff members was incredible. It was truly remarkable to see such a variety of very different sports pull together towards a common goal at the Varsity games. This year, once again, we were reminded that sports clubs and Team Warwick are considered the heartbeat of campus for a reason. A huge thanks goes out from the University to all those who won, lost or just supported over the past couple of weeks, as well as all the media societies that supported and covered the matches.varsity_2017_winners.jpeg
