Great social opportunity whilst getting active

How Active Leagues work

1. Join a team 2. Read the rules 3. Pay the team fee and confirm your team name

4. Captain's meeting 5. Manage your team with Playwaze, and book via the UoW Sport app

Sign up to Playwaze

Captains will be sent a link to register their team on Playwaze and then each individual member of the team will need to create a Playwaze account and join their team. This will allow you to see fixtures, results and more.

Book on via the UoW Sport app

Each week, every participant within each team must book on via the UoW Sport app to gain barrier access to play in the leagues. Regular spot checks will take place throughout the season to ensure all players have registered to take part in the league.

6. Follow our code of conduct

Warwick Active Leagues are built on sportsmanship, team spirit, fair play and enjoyment of sport. Any behaviour that goes against this ethos will result in disciplinary action, which could result in expulsion from the league without refund. Team captains are encouraged to report any misconduct to the relevant Sport Engagement Officer overseeing the league.

Participants are expected to:

Not engage in any discriminatory, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, disablist or similar behaviours
Behave in a reasonable manner relating to language and temper
Show respect toward all opponents and staff
Abstain from violence or seeking an unfair advantage on opponents
Adhere to the league’s rules and regulations
Handle all equipment and facilities with care and respect, including returning all borrowed equipment
Communicate regularly and respectfully with the relevant league Activator
Choose appropriate team names. (Warwick Sport staff reserve the right to censor any team name that is offensive or suggestively inappropriate)

Warwick Sport staff retain the right to implement any sanctions or bans if an individual is to breach this code of conduct. More serious breaches can result in University disciplinary action.

Active Leagues video description

The video opens outside the Sports and Wellness Hub, where Katie, a Sports Engagement Officer, introduces Active Leagues. Throughout the film, students and staff are shown taking part in a range of sports activities, including football, netball, volleyball and badminton, both indoors and outdoors.

Footage shows players warming up, competing in matches, celebrating together and chatting on the sidelines. Aerial views of the Team Warwick facilities and sports pitches appear, alongside close-up shots of sports equipment and players in action.

Several student league activators speak directly to camera from sports pitches and indoor sports halls encouraging staff and students to get involved with Active Leagues. On-screen name captions identify them as Matt, Football League Activator, Cassius, Football League Activator, and Sunae, Volleyball League Activator.

The film highlights the welcoming and social atmosphere of Active Leagues, showing people of different abilities taking part, meeting teammates and enjoying sport together as a community.

Towards the end of the video, a search bar graphic appears, directing viewers to search for "Active Leagues" on the Team Warwick website. The video then explains that, once your team is registered, you can start to book your weekly matches through the UoW Sport app.

The video concludes with Katie speaking outside the Sports and Wellness Hub explaining that "If you want to move more, meet new people or simply try something different this term, then Active Leagues is the perfect place to start". A black end screen then displays the white University of Warwick crest and wordmark before the film ends.

"WMG FC originally started as a small group of colleagues who shared a passion for football and wanted a casual way to stay active. Over time, it's grown into a diverse and welcoming squad made up of staff and PGR students from across WMG. We have a mix of players – different skill levels, backgrounds, and genders – all coming together for the love of the game. It’s become much more than just a weekly match; it’s a fun and inclusive way to connect with people across the department. Physically, it’s a great way to stay active and shake off the stress that can build up during the day. Mentally, it’s a great outlet – I always leave feeling more refreshed and energised. It also provides a real sense of community. Through the league, I’ve met colleagues from WMG that I likely wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise."

Jordi Smith, Active League participant (sport: 5-a-side football, team name: WMG FC)

"I joined the Warwick active league to get a sense of competition in the sport that I love most and to be more productive in general. The active league has been instrumental in relieving my exam stress and at the same time keeping my body healthy. Do join the active league, doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an advanced player, it is beneficial in many ways and it’s also a good stepping stone to those who want to start joining competitive tournaments in the future."

Rizzqy Nor Faiz, Active League participant (sport: badminton, team name: Velocity Vanguards)
