Focus Sport: Badminton

Athletes train and compete in squash and badminton facilities at the University of Warwick. Squash players rally on glass-backed courts while badminton players practise drills and compete in matches in the Sports and Wellness Hub arena.

Head Squash Coach Steve Townsend speaks to camera in the sports centre. Throughout the video, training footage shows athletes working in the gym, sprinting on court, and taking part in strength and conditioning sessions.

Squash Scholarship Athlete Dan Caton speaks in the sports centre atrium, in front of the glass-backed squash courts. His comments are accompanied by scenes of athletes warming up, completing agility exercises, and training in badminton and squash. You also see Sam Weekes, a Badminton Scholarship Athlete, discussing how the strength and conditioning and physio has helped him to become stronger and through injury.

Head Badminton Coach Nic Strange speaks to camera. As he discusses training and competition, badminton matches, coaching sessions, squash rallies, and gym workouts are shown. Players in Team Warwick kit compete in tournament settings and train under coach supervision.

Dan Busby, Squash Coach, highlights the different ability levels and depth of players Team warwick has whilst we see shots of our athletes training together, including world-ranked players and developing students. Male and female athletes take part in gym sessions, court drills, and competitive play.

Squash Coach, Sarah-Jane Perry, speaks about supporting beginner and advanced players. Female athletes are shown practising movement drills, receiving coaching, and competing on court.

In the closing scenes, athletes continue training in the gym and sports halls. An athlete speaks about balancing elite sport and education at Warwick. The video ends with badminton players in competition as the University of Warwick crest and wordmark appear on screen.
