Counsellors and Psychologists

Following a comprehensive review of Wellbeing and Student Support, the University of Warwick will be delivering a wide range of student support services through the Wellbeing, Disability and Counselling & Psychology Interventions teams from September 2019. We are committed to providing professional services that are tailored to individual requirements and aimed at enabling students to successfully complete their studies and enhance their student experience.

Following this review, Wellbeing and Student Support are now in a position to significantly expand our clinical interventions team to work within the newly created ‘Counselling and Psychology Interventions Team’. This team will comprise qualified and experienced counsellors and psychologists plus (voluntary) Associates (i.e. qualified but pre-accredited counsellors and psychology assistants) as well as a small number of trainee counsellors/psychologists (recruitment criteria to be released in due course). The Counselling and Psychology Intervention team will form part of the network of Wellbeing and Student Support for students, working in close collaboration with the Wellbeing Team of Wellbeing Advisors who, as well as health promotion across the university, also triage students and offer bespoke preventative workshops and self-help activities and strategies one-to-one, and the Disability team who offer advice and guidance to students with disabilities (including mental health disabilities) on reasonable adjustments to best manage their studies.

We are currently recruiting for 5 new Psychological Therapists to join the newly created CAPS - Counselling and Psychotherapy Services.

Salary: £40,792 - £48,677 per annum, pro-rata

Hours: The posts are all 4 days a week, Tuesday is the core day (when all staff will be required to work). There will also be a requirement to work either Tuesday or Thursday until 8pm (later start time) in term times. These are year-round posts.

Overview:

We are seeking qualified and experienced Counsellors and Psychologists with an interest in working with students within our highly respected University. The newly enhanced service is looking to employ professionals who will offer impactful clinical interventions to effect change with students managing a range of mild, moderate and complex psychological issues. The work will mainly be focussed, one-to-one therapeutic engagement with scope to develop evidence-based training and intervention with groups. There will be opportunities to offer clinical supervision and consultation to colleagues.

You will have chartered status with BPS and HCPC registration or be an experienced, fully accredited counsellor with BACP (or equivalent) and be competent to work in more than one distinct psychological therapy intervention. You will be an excellent team player with a pragmatic, positive approach.

Job Purpose:

To offer a range of specialist psychological/counselling clinical therapeutic interventions for students and staff to help them navigate through their personal, emotional and mental health distress so that they can access the opportunities University of Warwick has to offer.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Intervention Tasks

To offer face to face individual talking therapies for short, medium and longer term therapeutic contracts to work through moderate and complex distress using evidence based counselling/psychological interventions

To design and deliver specialist themed workshops/group interventions on issues such as: depression; anxiety; complex bereavement; eating distress; trauma; self-identity; interpersonal relationships; sexual issues; transitions; emotional regulation; addiction management; anger management; identity and gender issues; procrastination etc using evidenced based interventions such as CBT, EMDR, CFT, mindfulness, etc

To design, oversee and deliver training across the university as appropriate

To facilitate interpersonal development therapy groups

To deliver specialist qualified email counselling intervention

To liaise with and refer to professional colleagues as required

To engage with consultative supervision, case discussion meetings and ongoing professional development sessions

To keep accurate clinical records in line with professional guidelines and departmental requirements


Extended Clinical Tasks

To provide clinical supervision to Associate Practitioners, WBA’s as well as offering peer supervision with colleagues

To liaise with staff throughout the University in a consultancy capacity offering guidance on supporting students and staff


General:

To actively contribute to team business meetings and engage in team activities to take forward service development initiatives

To support the Department to meet a range of KPIs

To promote and represent the Counselling & Psychology Interventions Team throughout the university as appropriate

To undertake such other duties as may be required by the Management team.
