Library refurbishment update

The University is currently investing £4m in a Library refurbishment project.

Floors 1 and 2 are being developed and improved as are other spaces across the building.
The refurbishment will deliver a brighter new Library with more study spaces, some new spaces to support wellbeing and co-creation activities, refurbished toilets on Floors 2-5 and a new fire safety system.

Work is continuing but the Library is still open for business, and services are available, as they have been throughout the summer. The entrance to the Main Library is currently through our rear door, located between the main and extension buildings. This gives direct access to stairs and lifts and the rest of the Library where you can access study space and printed resources. The route is well signposted from the usual front entrance. Access to Lib 1, the Library café and Ground Floor toilets (but not to the Library itself) is still possible through the (front) main entrance to the building.

Library services, including borrowing and Click and Collect, continue to operate as normal.

We have a Welcome Point on the Ground Floor and two Helpdesks on Floor 3 for any users requiring assistance (one is positioned centrally on the floor, the other can be found at the South end of the floor (overlooking the Law Department building)). Study spaces remain accessible on Floors 3, 4 and 5 as well as the two floors in our Extension building (Floors 2 & 3 Extension).

  • Unfortunately, we have not been able to open up the whole Library space in time for the start of term as we had hoped and planned, due to some supply chain and workforce issues. There will be a short delay in some aspects of the project, including the re-opening of our usual entrance. In addition, opening hours for the Library and our sites may be revised over the coming weeks to essential maintenance.
  • As work continues, we would like to remind students that other Library study spaces are still available across campus in the Rootes Grid and the two Learning Grids in the University House. Students based at Gibbet Hill have access to the BioMed Grid and Leamington Grid remains open too. Postgraduate students are reminded that the PG Hub in Junction is also open.
  • Opening hours for the Library and some of our sites may be revised over the coming weeks to enable essential maintenance works to be completed, however, the aim is to continue to support access to study spaces.
Please check the Library website for opening hours.

Thank you for bearing with us. Rest assured we are working with the contractors to progress this as quickly as possible whilst ensuring a high quality completed project.
We will provide regular updates on the Library website and social media accounts.
