NSS 2023 - Thank you for taking part

Earlier this year, more than 3,750 final year students completed the National Student Survey.

The results were published nationally today (10 August), and we want to take the opportunity to say thank you for your feedback given through the survey. Your academic department will work through this feedback and discuss plans with your Course Reps to keep improving the experience at Warwick.

Today, we are sharing headline results and can already see several helpful themes emerging, read on to find out more. We will be completing in-depth analysis over the summer and will share more detailed information in September.

Overall results

At Warwick, our results are positive overall. Through your feedback, we know that 83% of you would recommend Warwick as a place to study.

As a result of your feedback, Warwick has scored above the sector benchmark in six of the seven key areas, including teaching, learning opportunities, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, and student voice. Warwick scored 1% lower than the sector average for Assessment and Feedback.

We rank top in the Russell Group for Organisation and Management and Student Voice and rank in the top 3 in the Russell Group across all question groupings.

We know that overall, you been particularly pleased with your academic support (88%), the teaching on your course (88%) and learning resources (90%). It’s great to hear that you have valued your expert teachers and have felt supported during your studies.

Through the Student Voice positivity score (77%), we can see that you are satisfied with the opportunities provided to share your feedback and we will continue to work together with you, the Students’ Union and other Student Representatives to strengthen our progress on the academic student experience. In the year ahead, we will make sure you continue to have lots of opportunities to share your views and keep the dialogue going.

You have also let us know where there is some room for improvement including by ensuring that marking criteria are clear and that the feedback you receive helps you improve your work. There is also more we can do to make sure we share how we act on the feedback you give about your course. We will review your feedback to understand how we can keep improving in these areas.

Clearly you think Warwick is on the right track, and with your feedback and future input, we will keep enhancing your experience.

Next steps

We are looking forward to working through the rest of the feedback in the survey. Your department will review responses to the survey, including the many helpful comments on what is going well and what needs to change to further improve the learning experience in the year ahead.

If you’re returning next year, you’ll hear more about the changes we will make. Many of you will be contributing to new developments through Student Staff Liaison Committees (SSLC) or by feeding into other projects. You can also speak to your Course Rep and Students’ Union Officers if you have ideas for improving your course or a service provided by the University. You can also put yourself forward to fill an academic representation role in the next academic year – keep your eyes peeled for updates and nomination opportunities in the student newsletter and SU newsletter.

For those of you who have already made a difference through representation and participation: many thanks for doing so!
