WBS student celebrates international students and 50 years of UKCISA at House of Commons

nileshOn 14 November WBS student Nilesh Gupta and representatives from Warwick's International Student Office, attended a special event to celebrate international students and 50 years of the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).

This 50th anniversary event celebrated the richness and talents which students bring to the UK over the years and the outstanding support which so many receive from advice staff in universities and colleges throughout the UK.

Nilesh, who is a third year student studying BSc. Accounting and Finance, was one of more than 50 international students present from more than 25 countries; from Barbados to France; China to USA. He attended the event with Claire O'Leary, Assistant Director, International Student Office and Head of Immigration Services, Marianne Davies. They joined colleagues from nearly 80 Higher and Further Education institutions, international students, MPs, Lords and sector representatives

Speaking about the experience, Nilesh said:

I would like to thank the international office for inviting me to the 50th Anniversary celebration of the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) at the House of Commons. It was a very heart warming evening and everyone in the room was in some way looking to contribute to the betterment of International student experience in the UK. I would especially like to thank Paul Blomfield MP and Lord Karan Bilimoria for hosting us and assuring us of their commitment for the same!"

The event was hosted by Paul Blomfield (MP for Sheffield Central), Lord Karan Bilimoria (President of UKCISA), Prof Koen Lamberts (Chair of UKCISA's Board of Trustees, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Sheffield), and Dame Janet Beer (President of Universities UK).
