We will typically consider the OSSD where we have official confirmation that this has been studied in person and where the student will achieve the full OSSD requirements of 30 credits. We would typically require this information to be stated on the UCAS form and we may request further information on school profile, where necessary.
The following departments will not typically consider the OSSD, and we would typically require alternative qualifications, i.e. APs, or IB. Please see our study pages or USA entry requirements page, for more information on these:
- Mathematics
- Education Studies
- Economics
The typical minimum requirements for OSSD, when studied in person and all 30 credits have been completed over 3 years, are as follows.

What do we mean by 'subject overlap'?
Please note that when we say “subject overlap” we mean for example, AP Calculus AB and Grade 12 Calculus are both Mathematics and therefore overlap. Similarly, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics are both Economics and therefore overlap. Where applicants have taken overlapping subjects, percentage scores from only one of the overlapping courses will count towards the typical requirements listed above.
Subject Specific Requirements
No specific Grade 12 or AP courses will be required for courses that do not have specific A Level, GCSE, IB HL or IB SL subject requirements.
Specific Grade 12 courses or AP courses may be required for courses that have specific A Level, GCSE, IB HL or IB SL requirements. We can also accept College Board AP Tests to meet subject requirements in lieu of course scores.
Subject specific requirements can typically be met through relevant courses or tests at the following scores:
A Level Requirement | Canadian Provincial Grade 12 Class and AP Course Percentage Requirement | AP Test Requirement |
A* | 90% | 5 |
A | 90% | 5 |
B | 85% | 4 |
GCSE Requirement | Canadian Provincial Percentage Requirement |
A* | 85% |
A | 80% |
B | 70% |
All Canadian provincial qualifications will be considered for courses in the Department of Computer Science.
For the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, applications can be considered, provided applicants are taking AP Calculus BC. Please check specific course requirements prior to application.
All Canadian provincial qualifications will be considered for courses in the Department of Physics.
For the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, applications can be considered, provided applicants are taking either AP Calculus BC, and both AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, or the respective AP tests in these subjects.
All Canadian provincial qualifications will be considered for courses in Warwick Statistics Department, as long as applicants are taking either AP Calculus BC or an acceptable Grade 12 Maths course (e.g. Calculus & Vectors or Advanced Functions). Applicants taking an additional Mathematics test (STEP, MAT or TMUA) are likely to be made an offer with a lower Maths requirement.
These tests are available internationally, and do not require travel to the UK. For further information visit;
Not all Canadian provincial Grade 12 Maths courses are acceptable for entry to Warwick Mathematics Institute. Some students may be required to achieve a 5 in AP Calculus BC. Warwick Mathematics Institute will not consider the Ontario Secondary School Diploma for entry.
We encourage students at Canadian high schools to contact us to discuss their Maths education in advance of applying to this department. Please note, all courses in Warwick Mathematics Institute will require additional Mathematics tests: STEP, MAT or TMUA, in addition to an acceptable level of Maths.
These tests are available internationally, and do not require travel to the UK. For further information visit;
To find out more about subject specific requirements email the North America team at northamerica@warwick.ac.uk and detail:
- A list of Grade 12 courses, AP course, and AP tests (if applicable) that you plan to take, are taking or have completed
- The province that you're studying in
- The name of your high school
- Undergraduate course(s) or subject areas that you’re interested in applying to
Non-Standard Qualifications
Although these are Warwick's typical entry requirements, we may be able to consider students studying other qualification mixes. To find out if you are eligible for consideration please email northamerica@warwick.ac.uk with your qualifications, your degree programme of interest and information about the qualifications/subjects available at your school.
Postgraduate Taught Courses
To be considered for a Master’s degree at Warwick you typically need to achieve (or be studying towards achieving) a Bachelor’s degree (120 credits) with a minimum average overall grade. On our website we list Bachelor’s requirements in UK terminology. Depending on your institution and the type of grading scale used, this typically translates to the levels outlined in the table below. Universities with slight variations from this include (but are not limited to) UBC, McGill, Memorial, Moncton, RMC, Quest, Vancouver Island, and York.
First Class Honours Bachelor's Degree

*An Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor’s degree (or 2:i or 2:1) is required for the majority of our Master’s
degrees. Only a few departments require a higher grade or will accept a lower grade.
For courses that require a ‘High 2:1’, grade requirements would typically range from midway and upwards between the minimum grades stated between a 2:1 and a First. Similarly, for courses that require a ‘High 2:2’, grade requirements would typically range from midway and upwards between the minimum grades stated between a 2:2 and 2:1.
Should you wish to check on the specific equivalencies for your institution, please contact the North America Team.

Postgraduate Research Courses
To be considered for a PhD at Warwick you typically need to achieve (or be studying towards achieving) a Master’s degree from a recognised Canadian university. For most departments, identifying a potential supervisor to discuss research interests and developing a Research Proposal is an essential component of the application. The Personal Statement and Recommendation Letters are also essential components of the application. More details are available via:
