Section 1: Purpose and Contents of this page:


This page has been created to give guidance to students who are currently outside of the UK and have been remote studying, or, are intending to start their course in 2021 remotely in the first a few weeks of the new academic year.

Please ensure you carefully read the guidance provided for your situation BEFORE you contact Student Immigration.

Section 2: Undergraduate students who began their course BEFORE Autumn 2020, and are due to complete their course in Academic Year 20/21:


Physical Arrival Deadline:


There is no deadline to enter/re-enter the UK as most courses can be completed remotely in the summer or autumn of 2021.

If you wish to travel to the UK, you may do so up to your visa expiry date as stated on your BRP.

If you made a new visa application from outside the UK, for example, due to course transfer or switching to the Student Route, you should follow the guidance in the rest of this section.



If you wish to complete your course remotely:


You should contact your department to confirm whether it is possible to complete your course remotely without having to travel to the UK.

If you have already used your current visa to enter the UK, there is no further action to take.

If your received a Remote CAS from Student Immigration and you have not used your CAS or used your new visa to enter the UK, then you should click on the following link and submit the online declaration:

If you wish to travel to the UK:


If you already have your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP):


You can enter the UK up to the expiry date on your BRP.

If you have a Temporary Travel Vignette (TTV), but have not travelled to the UK yet:


You must travel within the validity of your TTV.

You must ensure that your TTV is stamped with your date of entry by UK Border Force on arrival at a UK Border.

You must upload a copy of your stamped TTV to your enrolment portal.

If your TTV has expired or will expire by your intended travel date:


You will need to make a BRP Vignette Transfer Application to obtain a new TTV.

If your Latest Arrival Date in your CAS has passed, but you still wish to travel to the UK before your CAS End Date, you should contact Student Immigration to request a Student Delayed Report be submitted against your CAS.

If you have not made your visa application yet:


Your CAS is only valid for 6 months from the date it was assigned with the UKVI.

If your CAS has expired you should submit a new Remote CAS Request to Student Immigration.

We will issue a new CAS where we are able to - Student Immigration will not be able to issue any new CAS if the course end date has passed.

You must have submitted your visa application before your CAS course end date.

If you have not submitted by this date, you will not be able to make your visa application, and you will not be able to travel to the UK.



If you wish to apply under the Graduate Route:


You must arrive in the UK AND submit your Graduate Route application by your visa expiry date.

You must have studied in the UK for at least 12 months by the time you graduate, excluding short holidays.

Periods of remote study between 24 January 2020 and 27 September 2021 may be counted towards time spent in the UK under the UKVI covid concession policy.

You must return to the UK before your current visa expiry date.

Section 3: Postgraduate Taught students who began their course BEFORE Autumn 2020, are in Academic Extension and due to complete their course in Academic Year 20/21:

If have not made your visa application:

This means that if the course start date on your latest CAS is in 2020, and your course end date on your latest CAS is after 27 September 2021, you must arrive in the UK by 27 September 2021 to be eligible under this concession.

If the course start date on your latest CAS is in 2019, then you must return to the UK before your current visa expiry date.

Section 4: Postgraduate Research students who began their course BEFORE Autumn 2020, and due to complete their course in Academic Year 20/21:


Physical Arrival Deadline:


There is no deadline to enter/re-enter the UK if you can complete your course remotely in the autumn of 2021.

If you wish to travel to the UK, you may do so up to your visa expiry date as stated on your BRP.

If you made a new visa application from outside the UK, for example, due to academic extension or correction, you should follow the guidance in the rest of this section.

If you have not made your visa application:


Your CAS is only valid for 6 months from the date it was assigned with the UKVI.

If your CAS has expired you should submit a new Remote CAS Request to Student Immigration.

We will issue a new CAS where we are able to - Student Immigration will not be able to issue any new CAS if the course end date has passed. However, we may be able to assign a new CAS if you require further periods of extension or correction.

You must have submitted your application by your CAS end date.

If you have not submitted by this date, you will not be able to make your visa application, and you will not be able to travel to the UK.



If you wish to apply under the Graduate Route:


You must arrive in the UK AND submit your Graduate Route application by your visa expiry date.

You must have studied in the UK for at least 12 months by the time you graduate, excluding short holidays.

Periods of remote study between 24 January 2020 and 27 September 2021 may be counted towards time spent in the UK under the UKVI covid concession.

You must return to the UK before your current visa expiry date.

Section 5: Undergraduate students who began their course in Autumn 2020, or Undergraduate students who will begin their course in Autumn 2021:


Physical Arrival Deadline:


Your deadline to arrive in the UK is 08 November 2021, if there are unavoidable factors that prevent you from getting here for the start of term and your academic department agrees to it.

Exceptions:

If you are an Undergraduate student who will begin your course in Autumn 2021, and you will be studying one of the following courses, your arrival deadline is different:

  • Undergraduate Chemistry (all courses): 18 October 2021
  • BSc Cyber Security (WMG): 4 October 2021


If you have already made your visa application:


If you have already travelled to the UK, collected your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and then left the UK:


Your BRP will allow you to enter the UK whilst it is valid.

You must, however, ensure you return to the UK by 04 October 2021 for the new term.

If you have your Temporary Travel Vignette (TTV), but have not travelled to the UK yet:


You must travel within the validity of your TTV.

You must ensure that your TTV is stamped with your date of entry by UK Border Force on arrival at a UK Border.

You should have already received an email confirming that your arrival deadline is extended to 4 October. If you haven't, please contact us to re-send the email. This email can then be included in your next vignette transfer application as evidence that you have been remote studying.

If you have not made your visa application:

If you wish to apply under the Graduate Route:


There is no deadline to enter/re-enter the UK for the purpose of applying for a Graduate Route visa, but you must have studied in the UK for at least 12 months by the time you graduate, excluding short holidays.

Section 6: Postgraduate Taught students


Physical Arrival Deadline:


If you started your course in 2020, are able to complete your course remotely, and do not intend to travel to the UK:

You do not have a Physical Arrival Deadline.

You should contact your department to confirm that they will allow you to complete your course remotely.


If they confirm that you can complete your course remotely, you should click on the following link and submit the online declaration:

If you started your course in 2020 and you wish to travel to the UK:

If your course end date is on or before 31 December 2021, then your Physical Arrival Deadline is 27 September 2021.

If your course end date is on or after 1 January 2022, then your Physical Arrival Deadline is 8 November 2021, if there are unavoidable factors that prevent you from getting here for the start of term and your academic department agrees to it.

If you will start your course in autumn 2021:

Your deadline to arrive in the UK is 08 November 2021, if there are unavoidable factors that prevent you from getting here for the start of term and your academic department agrees to it.

Exceptions:

If you are a Postgraduate taught student who will begin your course in Autumn 2021, and you will be studying one of the following courses, your arrival deadline is different:

  • PGCE: 31 August 2021
  • MBChB (year 1): 18 October 2021
  • MBChB (year 2): 4 October 2021
  • All Warwick Business School courses (including MBA): 9 October 2021 (students may contact WBS directly to request a later arrival date up to 8 November 2021)


If you wish to travel to the UK:


If you already travelled to the UK, collected your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and then left the UK:


Your BRP will allow you to enter the UK up until the expiry date listed on the BRP.

You cannot remain in the UK beyond your BRP expiry date, unless you make an application to switch visa categories, if you are eligible to do so, such as the Graduate Route, Skilled Worker Route, etc..

You must travel within the validity of your TTV.

You must ensure that your TTV is stamped with your date of entry by UK Border Force on arrival at a UK Border.

If you started in 2020 and the Latest Start Date has passed on your CAS

You should have received an email confirming your latest start date has been extended to the respective deadline.

Once you receive the email, you can make a BRP Vignette Transfer Application.

If you have not received that email, please notify us using the online contact form (click on 'Connect with Us' link at the bottom of this webpage).

If you have not made your visa application:

You should not use an expired CAS in a Student Visa application, as this will most likely result in a refusal.

You cannot submit an application if your CAS end date has passed.

If you are able to submit your application before your course end date, you should request a new CAS from the PG Visa Team, ensuring you provide your intended travel date and add your Warwick ID to all correspondence:

If you wish to apply under the Graduate Route:

If your course end date is on or before 31 December 2021, you must arrive on or before 27 September 2021.

If you have already entered the UK using your existing student visa, but have since left, you must return before the expiry date of your visa.

If your course end date is on or after 1 January 2021, you must arrive on or before 6 April 2022.

Section 7: Postgraduate Research students who began their course in Autumn 2020, or, will begin their course in Autumn 2021:

Your deadline to arrive in the UK is the 08 November 2021, if there are unavoidable factors that prevent you from getting here for the start of term and your academic department agrees to it.



If you have already made your visa application:


If you already travelled to the UK, collected your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and then left the UK:


Your BRP will allow you to enter the UK whilst it is valid.

You must, however, ensure you arrive in the UK by 04 October 2021 for the new academic year.

If you haven't obtained authorisation from your department, please contact your academic department for an email confirmation and then forward this to us so that we can re-send the email. This email can then be included in your next vignette transfer application as evidence that you have been remote studying.
