Advancing Access (www.advancingaccess.ac.uk) is a partnership between 24 leading universities working together with schools and colleges.

We provide a variety of CPD resources and online events, free of charge, for teachers and advisers to help them support students’ progression to leading universities. The information and guidance provided, developed by our partnership of 24 leading universities, will help you advise learners making their key stage 4, key stage 5 and university choices.

The Advancing Access website provides best practice examples and how-to guides for teachers and advisers to use as a part of peer-to- peer CPD and in the classroom with their students.

The site will include detailed information on:

- Helping students choose post-16 subjects

- Helping students choose a university and a degree course

- Helping students apply to leading universities

- How admissions systems at leading universities work.

Teachers can access information and advice online through guidebooks, information sheets, presentations, student resources and video case studies.

Advancing Access will also host free virtual conferences throughout the year where users can hear first-hand from staff representing 24 universities, ask questions through live discussion forums and share ideas with colleagues, all without the need for travel. The Advancing Access project has been funded by HEFCE as part of the National Networks for Collaborative Outreach and builds on the success of existing measures designed to improve university entrance rates for students from under-represented or disadvantaged backgrounds.

In this day and age, choosing the right university and course has taken on an even greater significance for students and is a decision that has to be well informed.

Advancing Access will help immeasurably in that respect, not only for applicants themselves in raising their aspirations and equipping them with the information and confidence to make that decision, but for the staff who advise them, as the resources are comprehensive, insightful and easy to understand.
