Apply to be Mentored

What do I need to know before applying?

  • We welcome applications to be a mentor from staff and students at any career level. We'll match you with a mentor based on their experience in public engagement and your goals for a mentoring relationship.
  • The mentees handbookLink opens in a new window (produced by Leadership and Management Development) is a great resource to understand what mentoring is and isn't, what will be involved for you as a mentee and your responsibilities to the relationship.
  • This scheme is about developing your public engagement skills and experience. If you want a mentor to support general career development this scheme isn't suitable and you should instead apply to the wider University Mentoring SchemeLink opens in a new window.

Preferences for working with a mentee

We'll do our best to match you based on these preferences but it may not always be possible. When you're paired with someone we'll ask mentors and mentees to initially meet for a chemistry chat and a mentoring agreement conversation where you can get to know one another and see if you're the right fit for each other. If you don't feel we've paired you with someone appropriate you'll be able to walk away at this point.
