Arts at the heart of campus
The University’s creative and cultural arts quarter gets a further boost with our new Faculty of Arts Building.
The sustainably built structure will bring together most of our Faculty of Arts departments and research centres in one modern and flexible space that will enable collaboration, creativity and innovation to flourish.

Features and facilities
The building accommodates a range of spaces for teaching, studying, collaborative working and socialising, including two state of the art lecture theatres, seminar rooms and a café.
There is dedicated space for each academic department and specialist facilities including:
- Antiquities Room
- Creative Writing Room
- Cinema and Screening Rooms
- Theatre Studios and Rehearsal Rooms
- Media Lab
- Media and Edit Suite
- Transnational Resources Centre
- Multi-purpose Events and Exhibition Space

Behind the scenes
"Immediately, as you enter the building, you recognise that the design revolves around creating a community space that is able to accommodate the demands of many different departments.
The main ‘atrium’ area, although difficult to visualise entirely at the moment, has the potential to be a really incredible space. The layered seating is designed to form an almost amphitheatre style arena, with a view from the bottom floor straight up to the top."

“'The new Faculty of Arts Building (the FAB) is all about collaboration: between the architects, the contractors, our Estates team and the Arts Faculty in creating a student-focused and community space. While providing a collective home for all the Arts and Humanities disciplines, it is a building for the whole of the University as well as for engagement with the wider community.
