Download MP3

A reading by Thomas A Clark, Eric Mottram and Iain Sinclair at Battersea Arts Centre. Mottram chairs the evening. Clark reads first, beginning with a selection exploring landscape, visual art and walking, including a sequence called ‘In Praise of Walking’. He then reads from two series of sonnets, some published as Sixteen Sonnets (Moschatel Press, 1981), some unpublished. Mottram reads second, beginning with one poem from issue 5 of First Offence magazine (edited by Tim Fletcher). The rest of his reading is from two newly published books, Peace Projects and brief novels, 1986-89 (Talus Editions, 1989) and Selected Poems (North and South, 1989). Sinclair reads draft extracts from “a new book on London,” which would later become Downriver. He begins with an extract from ‘The Case of the Premature Mourners’ and follows with part of ‘The Guilty River.’
