Film and TV Postgrads take part in Millburn House Symposium - 27th May, 2015

Three of the department’s PhD students - Barbara Ottmann, Zoë Shacklock and James Taylor - are on the organisational board for this interdisciplinary symposium that will be held on 27th May.

On 27th May at Millburn House, the PGR community is hosting an inaugural interdisciplinary symposium as part of the Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Research Festival, to provide a platform for postgraduates across the faculty to share and discuss research. The broad theme for the day is “Representation in the Arts”, and our programme of papers, performance pieces, and roundtable discussions will approach this theme from a diverse range of perspectives. The symposium aims to be the springboard for a more permanent interdisciplinary network of researchers, and we look forward to welcoming the PGR community.

Follow us on twitter for live updates @millburnsymp, and join the discussion with #MHSymposium.

Dr. Michael Pigott shows new video works at 'Me, Myself and Others: A Cinematic Approach to Latin American Encounters' conference at University of Lincoln

Dr. Michael Pigott is presenting two new video works - Riachuelo Crossing (2014) and Villa 21 (2014) - at the 'Me, Myself and Others: A Cinematic Approach to Latin American Encounters' conference being held at the University of Lincoln on Saturday 21st February.

This day-long research event, sponsored by the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), the University of Leicester and the University of Lincoln, brings together scholars who have been working on different projects on the theme of Otherness and Encounters in Latin American Cinema, with practitioners working within and outside the film industry. For more information on the event CLICK HERE

The videos constitute preliminary work for a larger research project - Buenos Aires: Porous City - which is a practice-led investigation into the critical relationship between filmmaking and the city. Drawing upon Patrick Keiller’s notion of ‘filmmaking as spatial critique’ the project seeks traces of the film-image in the real locations of Buenos Aires, and uses the camera as a tool for the investigation of urban space.
