Current and Recent Projects
The department of Film and Television Studies is involved in numerous research opportunities. Some of our current projects are listed below:
The Projection Project - AHRC
The Projection Project is a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council which will run from Oct 2014 to Jan 2018. The project investigates the history of cinematic projection, the role and image of the cinema projectionist, and the contemporary expansion of projected images and events outside the cinema. It will use a mixture of methods, including oral history, archive research, interviews, textual analysis and photographs to document and explore C20th projection and the digital transformations of the twenty-first century.
A History of Television for Women in Britain 1947-1989 - AHRC project
The collaborative project team is researching television programming made for and watched by women viewers during a significant period of British Television history: 1947-1989
Histories of the Digital Future
The ‘digitisation’ of film and television production is matched by the multiplication of ways in which viewers can consume the products. It is in this context that the Department of Film and Television Studies has undertaken a shared exploration of ways of conceptualising the current transformation of our objects of study which are being effected by the shift from analogue to digital format.
Midlands Television Research Group
The Midlands Television Research Group (MTVRG) has been meeting since 1995 and is based in the Department of Film and Television Studies at Warwick. The group usually meets at least once a term for a mixed session which will include discussion of reading and viewing, maybe an early version of a research paper, and reports and conference news etc
Documentary, History and Staging Reality
‘Approximation’ is a project about history and representation in film, television and related media, looking specifically at the impact of 9/11 on the representation of reality in media and how this has invited us to review and rethink history.
