misha irek (yakovlev) (they) is in their fifth year of a PhD programme in Film and Television Studies. Their research draws on queer and decolonial theory to investigate the shifts in norms of gender, sexuality and race on the soviet and post-soviet screens during the long transition from Communism (1986-2003). They are supervised by Professor Karl Schoonover and Professor Rachel Moseley.
