Nell Stevens writes memoir and fiction. She has published two memoirs: Bleaker House and Mrs Gaskell & Me, which won the 2019 Somerset Maugham Award. A novel, Briefly, a Delicious Life, will be published in 2022. She was shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award, 2018. Her writing is published in The New York Times, Vogue, The Paris Review, The New York Review of Books, The Guardian, Granta and elsewhere.

Research interests: I explore writing that bridges fiction and non-fiction: genre-bending and genre-blending work that asks what lies beyond the boundaries of "fact". I'm also interested in historical fiction, particularly relating to the nineteenth-century; the relationship between the contemporary novel and nineteenth-century story-telling; the representation of art and music in contemporary fiction.
