GSD Graduation: Congratulations Class of 2024!

2024 Graduation Ceremony

For our 2024 ceremony, we welcomed back an alumnus from our first GSD student cohort to offer a keynote speech to new graduates.

Fred Betley graduated with a BASc in Sociology and Global Sustainable Development in 2019, and currently works as the Managing Director for FutureTracker – a London-based sustainability software company that provides industry-leading tools for reducing corporate emissions.

In his inspiring speech, Fred shared his insights on life after graduation and encouraged graduates to form their own paths to create the change they wish to see in the world. You can watch Fred’s speech in full here.

We were also incredibly proud to witness one of our graduating students receive an Outstanding Student Contribution Award (OSCA) during the ceremony. Kirsty Reed (Single Honours GSD) received the prestigious Warwick award in recognition of her hard work, passion and commitment towards promoting meaningful change – which she demonstrated through her remarkable contributions to youth development, disability inclusion, education co-production and community engagement. Graduation Lunch and Awards

Following the ceremony, graduates were invited to a lunch in the Chancellor’s Suite, Rootes Building, where individual prizes awarded by the GSD department were distributed to ‘outstanding’ students .

Our awards and student winners were as follows:

  • Best dissertation: Kirsten Lim (Life Sciences and GSD)
  • Best overall mark: Naomi Carter (Single Honours GSD)
  • Citizenship/Leadership (joint winner): Jay Chambers (Education Studies and GSD) and Bel Govier (Economic Studies and GSD).

Many congratulations to all our students who graduated this year. We wish you luck in your future endeavours and look forward to see where your paths – whether they be in further higher education or as part of the work force – take you next!
