Dr Maria Gavris joined the School for Cross-faculty Studies at the start of September as a Senior Teaching Fellow in Global Sustainable Development.
Prior to joining GSD, Maria worked as a Research Fellow in the Industrial Relations Research Unit at Warwick Business School. Before this, Maria was a Research Associate at the Centre for Decent Work at the University of Sheffield.
Maria has gained experience in designing and delivering interdisciplinary teaching across the social sciences, covering a variety of topics in sustainable development. In GSD, Maria will be the convenor for the honours-level GSD module Achieving Sustainability: Potentials and Barriers. Maria will also be teaching on the first-year core GSD modules: Economic Principles of Global Sustainable Development and the Global Sustainable Development Project.
Maria’s research interests include:
- good governance as a necessary pillar of sustainable development;
- macroeconomics and sustainable development;
- labour governance and decent work as a UN sustainable development goal;
- the sustainability of international monetary systems; and
- theories of hegemony.
We asked Maria how she's feeling about joining GSD:
“I am very excited to have joined this close-knit, interdisciplinary team and to have the opportunity to contribute to Warwick’s innovative GSD programmes. I look forward to working with – and learning from – my new colleagues and students. I am taking up this post in challenging times, marked by the Covid-19 crisis and its socio-economic consequences; in this context, the thing I am perhaps most excited about in my new role is the opportunity to introduce students to alternative perspectives in economics which challenge the current way of doing things and help us envision a better future.”
We're very pleased that Maria is now part of our team!
