Liberal Arts With Education
As a Liberal Arts student you will think self-reflectively about education itself: What purpose should education serve? How should learning be approached? What is the relationship between systems of education and the societies that they reflect or – alternatively – hope to bring about?
Liberal Arts with Education allows you to consider these questions at a deeper critical level. It will give you a comprehensive understanding of education as a diverse field of study and an appreciation of its truly transformative power.
Why study the Education route?
You will develop a view of education that is critical, contemporary, and international. You will draw on and develop a range of vital skills – such as flexibility, curiosity and reflection – as you encounter and work with a variety of perspectives on education.
Liberal Arts students will be well placed to embrace the interdisciplinarity of Education Studies:
- Engage with thinking from psychology and philosophy as you study how and why we learn.
- Look to sociology and literature to understand the position and representation of young people in culture and society.
- Consider political debates as you analyse how education is shaped by, and informs, current affairs.
By taking this multifaceted approach, you’ll find new ways to understand and affect the lives of people in the local area and communities further afield.

Please note:
- To study this route
- In the first year you must study a minimum of 30 CATS from the first-year core or optional Education modules OR two 15 CATS modules from the first-year core or optional Education modules.
- In your second and final year, you must study a minimum of 60 CATS of Education modules across both years combined (you can choose which ones to take when).
- Module offerings change annually and so individual modules may vary.
