Liberal Arts With Philosophy



Does the world make you wonder? Why are things one way and not another? Do you wonder whether the world could be changed for the better?

Like Liberal Arts, Philosophy at Warwick is an inclusive staff and student community in which you’ll find it easy to share views, challenge perceptions and take intellectual risks. Philosophy fosters some of the key skills that will also be at the heart of what you will be doing in your Liberal Arts modules: critical thinking, careful analysis and looking at problems from different points of view.

Why study the Philosophy route?

The Philosophy Department supports diverse philosophical traditions, with strong interests in both analytic and continental philosophy. As a result, Liberal Arts With Philosophy offers a broad take on the discipline, allowing you to choose from a varied range of modules and tailor your learning to what interests you most. The goal is to empower you to make a difference in the world by supporting you to become an independent, creative and effective thinker.

  • To study this route
    • In the first year you must study "Introduction to Philosophy" (30 CATS).
    • In your second and final year, you must study a minimum of 60 CATS of Philosophy modules across both years combined (you can choose which ones to take when).
  • Module offerings change annually and so individual modules may vary.

Course Overview

In your first year, you will take 120 CATS of 100-level modules. These will be composed by a combination of your:

Choose 30 CATS from any available and approved 100-level modules that interest you from across the University. These can be from Philosophy as well, or you might wish to explore another area.

In your second and final years, you will take 120 CATS per year for a total of
240 CATS of 200 and 300-level modules (120 CATS each).

These will be composed by a combination of:
