Southern African Stroke Prevention Initiative (SASPI)
The Southern Africa Stroke Prevention Initiative (SASPI) funded by The Wellcome Trust is a collaborative project between the Health Promotion Research Unit, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of Warwick. The aim is to reduce the burden of stroke both to the community and to the health services. Preliminary findings suggest that disability from stroke is four times more common than indicated by earlier work in Tanzania, and that most people experiencing a stroke do not seek conventional medical help or rehabilitation.
