Exchanges: Interdisciplinary Research Journal
The latest special issue from the IAS’ Exchanges journal was published at the start of August 2021 (Vol 8.4). Developed in collaboration with the Then & Now: Arts at Warwick student-led research project and exhibition, the issue includes articles by and about the project members.
As with other special issues published by the journal, much of the editorial labour drew in members of Warwick’s post-graduate researcher community. This provided a fantastic opportunity for those involved to help in producing the issue, but also to gain invaluable practical editorial experience and insights.
It is hoped that one or more of the authors featured in the issue will appear as guest speakers on future episodes of the Exchanges Discourse podcast to talk about their articles and project experiences.
Submissions for future regular issues of Exchanges continue to be sought from Warwick’s researcher community, as well as scholars worldwide. Meanwhile, development on two further special issues, initiated with national and international partners, continue behind the scenes, with publication anticipated in 2022.

WIRL-COFUND Fellow Ioana Vrabiescu has been seconded to the Law School at Tel Aviv University. During her stay Ioana will be hosted by Prof Hila Shamir who conducts the ERC project TraffLab. Ioana will conduct desk research related to the research interests of the project and will also have opportunity to present her own work on detention and deportation of illegalized EU citizens in France and Romania.
Early Career Fellow Joe Chick has secured a two-month internship this summer with a project called the Victoria County History. He is working on a new app designed for exploring local history called A History of English Places. Joe has just posted the first of a series of walking tours of historic sites using the app.
Congratulations to Associate Fellow Dr Julia Peetz who has published 'The counter-theatricality of right-wing populist performance'. This article shows how the public performances of U.S. presidents work to convey a sense of who the president is (his public persona) and to speak to an idealised national audience that is quasi-fictional insofar as it can be addressed in a unified way.

Fernandez Fellow, Cécile Doustaly, arrived at Warwick on the 12th August in order to resume her fellowship here. Cécile's research centres on comparative cultural policies and management, questioning how to balance local engagement and Internationalisation, collaborating with ministries, local authorities, cultural institutions and international organisations.
