Language, Arts and Belonging: an IAS Conversation
The Drama and Language Education Research Network (DALERN) presents its first event of 2026, funded by the IAS Conversations scheme:
Language, Arts and Belonging: an IAS Conversation
When: Friday 27 February, 10:00 AM–12:30 PM
Where: IAS Seminar Room C0.02, Zeeman Building, University of Warwick
(Ground floor, behind the main entrance atrium)
The Drama and Language Education Research Network (DALERN), based in the School of Education, Learning and Communication Sciences (SELCS), brings together researchers, artists, teachers and practitioners who are interested in questions such as:
- How can drama education and other arts-based pedagogies address the connections between cultural and linguistic diversity, and hospitality and belonging?
- How should we approach intercultural communication and translanguaging in educational, artistic and public spaces, especially those involving marginalised groups?
- How can we use video and other forms of data to analyse the embodied, multimodal practices found in educational, artistic and social interactions?
- How can inter- and multidisciplinary research methods contribute to understanding drama and other forms of participatory, arts-based praxis?
What to expect:
During this IAS Conversation, you will be invited to:
- Connect with staff and PGRs from departments and disciplines across Warwick
- Engage in discussion around key research themes, in a friendly, informal setting
- Learn about collaborative, interdisciplinary initiatives at Warwick, at the intersection of language, arts, culture and inclusivity
- Find out about and get involved in future DALERN activities and funding proposals, including plans to apply for an IAS Interdisciplinary Research Development Award (IRDA)
