Call for abstracts – ICUR 2017

The fifth annual International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) will be held on Tuesday 26 & Wednesday 27 September 2017 and is open to undergraduate researchers from any discipline. Submit your abstract of 250 words for the chance to present to an audience around the world via state of the art video-conferencing technology. Deadline: 20 May 2017 (early submissions encouraged).

IATL funding for staff

On 14 December 2016 IATL hosted the showcase event 'Re-shaping the Learning Environment: IATL Funding for Staff', providing a platform for our funding recipients to share ideas and techniques from their exciting work with the wider Warwick community. Our next staff funding application deadline is 5 May 2017 and we encourage you to get in touch about your project idea.

Further collaboration between Warwick and Monash

IATL has received funding via the WIHEA Monash Warwick Visiting Educator Scheme to bring Dr Christopher Thompson, Associate Dean Education, Faculty of Science, Monash, to collaborate with IATL staff and WIHEA Fellows in January 2017. Chris will contribute to our Strategic Project with Chemistry, discuss interdisciplinary pedagogy with Warwick colleagues and offer at least two open events, details of which will be announced by the start of next term.

Drug Laws: The Worst Censorship of Research since the Catholic Church Banned the Telescope

This free public lecture, which contributes to the IATL module Censorship and Society, will be delivered by Prof. David Nutt, the Edmond J Safra Chair and Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College, London, who is perhaps best known as 'the scientist who was sacked' by the Home Secretary because he compared the harms of horse-riding with taking ecstasy.

Student as Producer Performance of Celebration

Celebration is a show about letting go and making joy, about optimistic attachments and trying to live differently. It aims to give anyone who can't quite believe the world they live in something to believe in.

Student as Producer Performance of The Bed of Passage

26 & 27 November 2016, 19:30 | Humanities Studio, University of Warwick

The Bed of Passage is an original play written and directed by Christophe Locatelli and has been funded by an IATL Student as Producer (Performance) grant. It depicts an intimate conversation between a couple in bed that turns into a journey of personal and emotional discovery. Intense and powerful, interspersed with moments of bittersweet humour, this is a production not to be missed.

Re-shaping the Learning Environment: IATL Funding for Staff

Warwick BLASTER team facilitate five-day 'Best Practice in Undergraduate Research' training event

Members of the BLASTER (Best Liberal Arts and Science Teaching Expanded and Reinforced) team from Warwick facilitated a five-day event in October at Leuphana University, Germany, where staff and student experts from European partner institutions showcased best practice in undergraduate research, and formed small research teams to continue the exploration of innovations in this area.
