EUTOPIA students at ICUR 2025
A student from Vrije Universiteit Brussel reflects on her international, interdisciplinary experience at this year's ICUR.
We were delighted to read about Isidora Popovic's reflections on her ICUR 2025 experience. As a hybrid conference, ICUR takes place across in person and online platforms - so Isidora was able to join us to present from her home institution, EUTOPIA institution Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as well as using our online conference platform and our programme of student support (including Panel Facilitator mentorship) to connect with like-minded undergraduate researchers from around the world.
Some of our favourite quotes... “ICUR is an immersive programme of academic development, offering training and mentoring from the moment students submit their abstracts through to their final presentations.” “It’s such a great way for students to present their work and explore academic careers. I’d love to help promote it next year so more people know about it.” Her advice to future applicants? “Don’t hesitate. It’s a really welcoming environment. You’ll learn, you’ll grow, and you’ll meet amazing people along the way.”

ICUR 2025 welcomes MTSU team
ICUR 2025 welcomed a team of students from Middle Tennessee State University, USA to present at the conference and contribute to its student leadership.
At this year's International Conference of Undergraduate Research, we were delighted to welcome Dr Jamie Burriss and a team of undergraduate researchers from Middle Tennessee State University (USA) to Warwick and to IATL. Emily Callison, Muny Chet, Andrew Hetrick, and Ariel Nicastro all travelled overseas to support the conference as Panel Facilitators and to present their own original research on an international, interdisciplinary stage. Dr Burriss had joined us at Warwick two years ago for WorldCUR*BCUR 2023 - so it was a particular pleasure to welcome her back to IATL in support of our goals for student research worldwide!
The MTSU team worked with our Student Directors, Panel Facilitators, and Student AV Technicians leading up to and at ICUR 2025 to deliver a highly acclaimed international event.
We loved reading our MTSU friends' reflections on their time with us - roll on ICUR 2026! #ICUR2025 #undergraduateresearch #interdisciplinaryresearch #undergraduateconference
Some of our favourite quotations...
“This was my first international conference, and it solidified my passion for global conservation research,” [Hetrick] said. “Seeing how students across the world are tackling similar environmental issues was both humbling and energizing.”
“We want more of our students to see what’s possible,” [Dr Burriss] said. “International undergraduate research opens minds, builds confidence, and prepares students for a future that’s more connected than ever.”
"As for the students, they return from England with more than bullet points for their résumés. They return with broader worldviews, refined communication skills, and a sense of belonging in the global academic community."
