The transition to university can be challenging for first year undergraduate students, particularly when embarking on interdisciplinary degree courses such as MORSE, Data Science or Mathematics & Statistics. Peer tutoring delivered by more experienced undergraduate students can provide an effective means of supporting new students with this transition. Aside from traditional face-to-face small group teaching the project takes an innovative approach by using anchored online discussion groups implemented in Moodle to deliver peer support and engage in a conversational model of learning. Peer tutors will have opportunities to promote and demonstrate their leadership and cooperation skills.
