ICUR 2024

By joining the audience at our ICUR (International Conference of Undergraduate Research) you will support Warwick students as they present their research on the global stage!

ICUR has moved from September to the end of June, and we are excited to be planning for an in-person and hybrid event for Warwick students, where they’ll get the chance to experience an academic conference often for the first time.

The ICUR 2024 programmeLink opens in a new window is busy - over two days it will link up with institutions across many different time zones. Students who present and attend will discover research from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective at ICUR. There will be spoken presentations in themed sessions, poster sessions and alternative forms of presentations each day.

We are delighted to announce that Prof Michael Scott will be the keynote speakerLink opens in a new window on Thursday 27th June from 9.45am until 10.30am BST.

Warwick is hosting ICUR with established ICUR international partner institutions Monash University, Nanyang Technological University, Stellenbosch University, Zayed University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Leeds and many others from the Eutopia network. ICUR is also delighted to welcome new ICUR institutions including Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, in Germany, and Middle Tennessee State University in the USA.

In a new development for 2024, ICUR will include new links to Warwick Venice Centre as part of a series of events commemorating the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo. Warwick Venice Centre – ICUR 2024 (icurportal.com)Link opens in a new window

What are the benefits?

The International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) is an annual, two-day academic conference that showcases the best in undergraduate research from around the world. It provides undergraduate researchers with a unique opportunity to present their research in real-time, video-linked sessions from their home campus.

Participants benefit from a supportive forum to engage in international research dialogue. Attendance at ICUR provides material for your CV, extensive feedback, valuable networking opportunities, and an introduction to research as a potential career. Past presenters have described ICUR as a ‘unique experience that enables you to meet students from other countries and learn about issues important to them’, as ‘rewarding, insightful and exciting’ and as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’.

ICUR is student-centred and student-led, with a team of Student Directors from the University of Warwick.

Not sure yet? This is why you should consider submitting an abstract for ICUR 2024:

    1. Global Exposure:

ICUR provides a unique platform for presenting your research globally, forging connections with peers and academics from universities worldwide.

Listening to everybody's presentations and seeing their passions come alive. I also really appreciated the trans- as well as inter- disciplinary nature of the conference. Regardless of our disciplines we all could talk to each other and appreciate each other's ideas and ways of thinking. ICUR was also a vehicle for us to come together and link disciplines together that traditionally aren't considered complimentary.

    2. International Collaboration:

Immerse yourself in enriching collaborative experiences, echoing the sentiments of Eugenia, a participant from ICUR 2018, who shares:

The best part of ICUR would be sharing my research with many like-minded people. I interacted with many students studying different areas but sharing the same passion for research. My research is about environmental economics. I got to see other researchers who tackle ecological problems from other disciplines, such as biology and statistics, and broadened my vision and communicated with them.

    3. Networking Opportunities:

Build a network that transcends borders, connecting with like-minded individuals during the conference.

Getting to interact with other students doing research at a generally similar level to me. Up until now my research experience had been very isolated and individual, so getting to see what others in similar positions in their careers are doing was very helpful.

    4. Interdisciplinary Exploration:

Explore beyond your discipline and find inspiration for your research and idea, just as one Law student who participated in ICUR 2015 did:

I have a genuine passion for knowledge inside and outside of my discipline, so it was 'cool' to be able to attend presentations outside of my field. I was also looking for ideas outside of my discipline to incorporate into my research or open up new ideas for new researches.

    5. Comprehensive Support:

As highlighted by Yu, a commerce student from Monash University Australia, as they share their experience of participating in ICUR 2021:

We can get strong support before, during, and after the conference. Before the conference, we can get detailed feedback on our abstract. During the conference, we can get a step-by-step guide and a convenient ICUR app. After the conference, we can get many helpful next-step suggestions, for instance, publication, further research...
