Introduction

Undergraduates at Warwick can get involved in research through a variety of different routes. There are opportunities to do research within the curriculum, including modules that offer the chance to develop research skills (e.g. literature reviews, quantitative or qualitive methods) and then practise them through formulating, designing and conducting individual or group research projects. Other modules have research-led assessments, such as allowing students to devise their own essay titles and to therefore conduct independent research on topics of their choice. Final year modules include research projects and dissertations, spaces where undergraduates conduct in-depth investigations into areas that interest them most.

Outside of the curriculum there are often department-based opportunities for students to undertake summer projects, working alongside PhD students or postdoctoral staff. Departments may have links to summer studentships or other placements with outside organisations. The Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) at Warwick enables undergraduates from any department/discipline to apply for a bursary to support them to conduct a supervised summer research project of their own devising. Through the Institute for Advance Teaching and Learning (IATL) students can apply for funding for independent research or performance projects.
