Every year on 23 June, International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers around the world and shines a spotlight on the opportunities engineering creates for future generations. More information

This year's INWED theme was 'Engineering Intelligence' and the School of Engineering held their yearly celebration event on the subject of Human vs Artificial Intelligence, organised by Modupe Jimoh, Associate Professor, Chair of the Athena Swan (AS) SAT and deputy Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Committee .

All genders were welcome. The event included a voting activity to decide which vase was of Human and which of AI design, followed by a workshop that explored the

role of Engineers as AI becomes an embedded way of working, the pitfalls, the ethics and how we learn and adapt.

Kerry Evans, guest speaker (pictured left), gave a talk entitled 'Engineering Intelligence: Beyond the Algorithm' and went on to lead the workshop discussion.

Kerry is a Chartered Engineer and Director of Highways at Eco-Scope, with over 20 years of experience in highways and highly active across professional institutions. More information
