Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme
The application process for the 2011-2012 Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme is now open until Wednesday 1st February. To apply, staff and students from any department or research centre within the University are invited to submit an agreed project proposal via the individual online forms (N.B. students don’t have to apply to research within their home department). Please note – this is different from previous years, where staff and students could apply alone – we now ask for them to collaborate beforehand to agree the project and budget before applying. Students are invited to apply for a bursary of up to £1000 with an attached budget breakdown, which should explain the expected expenses of the project. After the deadline on 1st February, the Review Board will meet on Tuesday 28th Feb to assess applications, and supervisors will be advised of the outcome on Friday 9th March. Projects should take between 4 and 10 weeks to complete, and should fulfil the criteria explained on the URSS website, go.warwick.ac.uk/skills/urss. It is compulsory for all successful students to attend Briefing 1 (which we have 3 available dates for), and we strongly encourage them to attend two later ones which advise them on poster design and reflective activities. We will be strongly encouraging students to engage with reflective tools along the way, such as online blogs and workgroups, to encourage them to see this as a developmental process. The scheme culminates in an Award Ceremony, attended by the VC, on 21st November 2012.
Real World STEM
Real World STEM is a new initiative that gives you the opportunity to develop your communication and presentation skills in a supportive environment and with the help of professionals from your own department, from education and from business.
There will be two sessions of two hours each to prepare you for the main activity which will require you, in small groups, to present and pitch a real world situation to a panel of subject experts, potential employers, and presentation specialists. The last session will provide you with supportive feedback on your performance.
This is an opportunity to practice and develop those skills that complement your academic speciality and that may well give you the edge in interviews for competitive academic, industrial or other positions.
The course is open to all students in Years 1 and 2, and will be capped at 30 places.
ICE Graduate Workshops
The first workshop will be held in Birmingham on 26th January but future events are planned throughout the UK.
