Health and Safety Induction

Basic Health and Safety training is compulsory for all Staff and Students within the school

The courses that you should complete are available via your Moodle pages.

Additional courses should be taken if you work or study in Laboratories containing

Hazard specific health and safety checklist for new starters - This form povides information about the propose activities of new starters to the department Health and Safety Officer prior to their induction meeting and should be completed with your line manager.

Introduction to Research Supervision explores the University's policy and procedures around supervision and the support available to staff and their PhD students.

On-line Training

On-line Health and Safety training is available via the Health, Safety and Wellbeing webpages.

Health and Safety Training for the School of Engineering

There are specialised training courses required for use of specific items of work equipment including:

  • Abrasive wheels
  • Use of a pendant crane and slinging
  • Fork lift truck
  • Gas (when breaking into the gas pipework and making modifications to fittings)
  • Work involving potential disturbance of asbestos materials
