Children at Work Policy

The University's guidance on children and young people is that children on campus other than for University-organised and supervised activities remain the responsibility of their carer at all times. Staff or students who wish to bring their children into their department must obtain written approval from the Head of School or the Senior Administrator prior to bringing their children in and must directly supervise the child at all times. If approval is given this will be on the understanding that your children and the supervision of your children are / is your responsibility and that your children will not be left unattended in any area of the School.

In Engineering, we welcome families of staff and students in A401, the School Staff Common Room on the Floor 4th floor provided the room is not already booked out for use and that young people are supervised at all times. Children may also be in their parent’s office as long as this does not disturb other members of the School and as long as the office can be accessed without using laboratory or workshop corridors, again children must be supervised.

Permission will not be granted for children to be in corridors, workshops, laboratories or any offices that are behind 24-hour card-access doors, even for the purposes of accessing other areas.
