Professor Christopher James was presented with the MGA Achievement Award by IEEE President Elect, Howard E. Michael at a ceremony in Budapest on 5 April. Professor James was granted the Award for his extraordinary contributions in promoting professional and career development for IEEE students and young professional members, both nationally and internationally.

Professor James said:

I am deeply honoured to have received this award from the IEEE. I enjoy the work I do with the biomedical engineering student community both in the UK and beyond, and to be recognised for it is most rewarding”.

The Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) awards and recognition program is designed to promote, recognise and reward excellence, in promoting the interests of IEEE. The Achievement Awards recognise individuals or a team for singular achievement in the development and completion of a project(s) or activity(ies). This award recognises those substantive projects or achievements of a relatively short nature (one to three years), but which have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of the IEEE. A particular focus is given to those volunteering for IEEE, MGA, or its organisational units; not on professional achievement.

Professor James is a Biomedical Engineer from the School of Engineering, University of Warwick. His research focuses on the development of biomedical signal and pattern processing techniques, as well as the use of technological innovations, for use in advancing healthcare and promoting wellbeing. He leads Warwick Engineering in Biomedicine (WEB), which brings together the critical mass of biomedical research within the School covering: synthetic biology, medical sensors and diagnostics, systems medicine, neural engineering and systems pharmacology.
