Doctoral researcher wins award at HEA STEM event

Doctoral Researcher Arnesh Vijay has won the 'Highly Rated Poster Award' in the third Higher Education Academy’s STEM annual learning and teaching conference, which took place at the University of Edinburgh on the 30th April and 1st May 2014.

The conference theme was 'Enhancing the STEM student journey’. Arnesh has been carrying out teaching duties in the School of Engineering for the last three years and used this as the basis for his poster. Arnesh focussed on the importance of creativity among engineering students, giving his poster the title 'Creativity in Engineering - Innovative Minds for Brighter Future'.

The submission for the conference involved two stages. The first was the submission of an abstract, which on going through a strict peer- reviewing process. The best 60 entries were then selected to present posters at the main conference. There was stiff competition as it involved undergraduate and postgraduate students in addition with entries from members of staff from universities across the UK.

Arnesh said: “I’m really pleased to win this award. The judges commented that my poster was well prepared and presented in accordance to the conference theme, which led them to award me a prize under a special category.”
