Former PhD student wins prestigious fellowship
Congratulations to Dr Guotao (Derek) Ma who has won a prestigious Early Career Fellowship from Warwick Institute of Advanced StudyLink opens in a new window. It is an excellent achievement by Derek who just defended his PhD a week ago. The Fellowship will help him to further develop his skills in risk analysis and uncertainty quantification in collaboration with the industry.
Derek Ma has successfully defended his PhD thesis
Delighted to announce that on Monday, January 10, Derek Ma successfully defended his PhD thesis “Probabilistic Analysis of Post-failure Behavior of Landslides Using Stochastic Material Point Method”. Derek was one of the best PhD students in Warwick Ground Engineering lab. The results of his PhD research have been published in several high impact journals in the geotechnical engineering field, such as Landslides, International Journal of Geomechanics and etc., as well as in conferences and workshops. Many congratulations Derek, you definitely have a great career ahead of you.
New joint paper in Journal of Cleaner Production (IF: 11)
just published a strong output from MINRESCUE project in Journal of Cleaner Production, entitled "Coal mining wastes valorization as raw geomaterials in construction: A review with new perspectives". The joint article, led by Dr Thanh Liem Vo, was the result of a collaborative study by our geomechanics team at University of Warwick with materials and mining scientists at Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter and structural engineering experts at Politecnico di Milano on the valorization of coal mining wastes for high-level construction purposes.
New paper in Transportation Geotechnics
Yet another paper from Derek's PhD project, entitled "Effects of spatial auto-correlation structure for friction angle on runout distance in heterogeneous sand collapse" by Guotao Ma, Mohammad Rezania and Mohad Mousavi Nezhad has been accepted for publication in Transportation Geotechnics, 2022.
