A Journey Through Aerosol Microphysics to Disease Transmission and Beyond

Capturing the microphysical processes occurring on individual particles is key to understanding on the macroscale the collective properties of an aerosol (a gas phase dispersion of solid or liquid particles). In this talk, we will review the transformation of aerosol particles by evaporation and condensation, phase change, deposition and resuspension, highlighting studies performed at the single particle level. Insights from these fundamental studies into respiratory disease transmission, spray drying and the resuspension of particles from surfaces will be described.
