Grenoble INPG L3S
The Laboratoire Sols, Solides, Structures-Risques (3SR) is a joint research unit between the Centre National de Research Scientifique (CNRS), and two universities, l’Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and Grenoble-INP. The research group at 3SR has extensive expertise in the numerical modelling of gravity driven natural hazards, such as: landslides, rock falls, flow slides, snow avalanches.
Finite element and discrete element methods are employed to analyse both fully and partially saturated soils. Two academic codes are being developed for this purpose: FEMLIP for the finite element method with Langrangian integration points and YADE for the discrete element approach.
Within the framework of the IRSES exchange, exchanges took place mainly with Tongji University to investigate the effect of temperature and pressure on the mechanical properties of methane hydrate–bearing soils.
