Discussion Area M&P ES327 and ES410 Project resources.

   I’d like to start a conversation about resources that the stream has / has access to support 3rd year projects. For example, many of you have kit from previous projects squirreled away that would ably support another project next time around. Also there are general resources in the School (such as the two new spaces in the basement that have come on-stream in the past 15 months (SW1 – Student Workshop and D005 – Student Project Space) that allow practical aspects of project work to be explored.

   There are bespoke tools, there is specialist kit, and there is plenty of good, solid engineering tackle such as engine hardware that could all be brought to bear to support a keen student. A cursory examination of the student preference numbers shows that there is a desire for practical projects.

   Please do then feel free to list below resources that you would be prepared to make available to students for project work UNDER CAREFUL SUPERVISION BY YOUR COLLEAGES IN M&P here.

   Hopefully a few things will be dug out that will mean popular projects can be run in more than a single instance, and with this shared resource we can together knock out all of the TBA lines out of the list.

   For my part, if anyone else wants to run projects based on internal combustion engine hardware, I have approximately 6 small capacity (200 cc to 450 cc) engines that I am more than happy to loan out for project use.  My experience with these int eh past is that they really help students engage with a project and give them many ideas of how to proceed with mechanical projects.
