Industrial Funding Schemes for PhD

Any offer of industrial funding should be discussed with Kirsten Lawrie Email:k dot j dot lawrie at warwick dot ac dot uk in the first instance.

External Schemes

  • CASE Award – Industrial CASE provides funding for PhD studentships where businesses take the lead in arranging projects with an academic partner of their choice. The business lead needs to submit the initial bid to the annual call (usually April-May) and will also need to provide cash funding of at least £22,883 during the studentship. University Scheme

  • WCPRS – Warwick Collaborative Post-doctoral Research Scholarship – The fees and maintenance costs of a home/overseas student are split 50:50, with the Company also contributing significantly to the travel and consumable expenses. 50% of a Home/EU student studentship (3.5 years) totals approximately £36,680 (based on RCUK projected figures at +2% pa). For WCPRS studentships whom the department wishes to recruit international students for, funding should be secured for 50% of the studentship (as above) plus the difference in fees between Home/EU and International rates.
Six WCPRS awards are availble within the Faculty of Science in 2014/2015. As the University is contributing considerably to the costs, the Company would not be expected to receive sole ownership of arising IPR. Direct Industrial Funding

The costs associated with a PhD studentship vary considerably depending on the nature of the project and the industrial sponsor. Any offer of industrial funding should be discussed with the Research Development Officer or the Research Contracts Officer in the first instance.

The School of Engineering can offer either of the following financial support schemes for high quality PGR student applicants;

  1. Matched funding, 50:50 support. If colleagues can externally raise 50% of the full funding for home/EU students, then the School will provide matched funding.
  2. Home/EU PGR students, we can offer a fee waiver (i.e. £4k pa)
  3. Overseas students a 50% fee waiver (i.e. £9k pa)

Please speak to the Directory of Graduate Studies - Prof. Tim Ashley (T dot Ashley at warwick dot ac dot uk) - if you want to discuss these options further.
