Sishca Higgins

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Student

Graduated in 2019

MSc in Biotechnology, Bioprocessing and Business Management

Nationality: Jamaica

First Degree: Zoology & Botany

First job after graduating: I will resume working at the Scientific Research Council in a new capacity as the Research Scientist for the Tissue Culture Unit however, I have plans to start my own company that will produce value added products from the hemp plant.

My first impression of the campus was that I thought I would never fit in but the highlight of this experience are the bonds that I formed with people from different nationalities as well as the skills and life lessons that were gained in a relatively short period of time.

The best thing about the course was the broad spectrum and depth of knowledge that I gained after completing the course that will certainly be utilised after the course ends. I have now developed a passion for industrial processing and one of my future goals is to now own and manage my own company in Jamaica.

The dissertation was very instrumental in my choice of future career plans. I gained a lot through independent reading and research and I hope to utilise what I learned through the course and the dissertation to guide me in establishing my future company.
