BioSoc

BioSocLink opens in a new window is an all-inclusive society that prioritises social welfare while supporting academic performance and providing opportunities for career enrichment. We achieve this through three main initiatives:

SocialsLink opens in a new window
With BioSoc you’ll discover all the usual student and Warwick traditions such as circling, bar crawls and club nights along with games and film nights, quizzes, BBQs, picnics. BioSports offer the opportunity to play football, netball, rugby, and volleyball. We hope to run tours and finally, the highlight of our social calendar: our Spring BioBallLink opens in a new window.

Academic Support
BioSoc offers peer-to-peer support through BioCafe and the Mentorship programme. BioCafe is a weekly study support session offering advice on managing your studies, tips for completing coursework and pastoral support. The Mentorship scheme allows students to seek guidance from their older peers in a relaxed 1:1 environment, and is especially helpful for first years in adjusting to the academic and social differences from school to university.

Career enrichment
VolunteerLink opens in a new window to deliver talks and lessons to local schools with our outreach programme, write articlesLink opens in a new window, mentorLink opens in a new window first years and provide support at the weekly BioCafe.Link opens in a new window

BioTalksLink opens in a new window are varied, for example career talks from alumni, research talks from industry professionals or panel sessions with PhDs.

Underpinning all events are our BioFamiliesLink opens in a new window, an invaluable network for academic and pastoral support throughout the years but particularly in those first few weeks. Parents and older siblings are great for those questions you don’t feel comfortable asking. They will understand the social and academic challenges you’re facing and will be there to support and guide, whether it’s making the walk over to Gibbet Hill more enjoyable or escorting you to off campus events. Extended families can form great social groups who over time forge friendships that span all academic years and extend beyond BioSoc.
