Transferable Skills

Postgraduate study is an opportunity to develop a range of skills that will be valuable in whatever career you decide to go into. By the end of your studies you should be able to demonstrate a number of skills such as

  • time management,
  • project organisation,
  • using software such as Latex,
  • ability to work independently and think creatively,
  • ability to communicate difficult concepts to an audience.

This page provides the links to some of the internal and external opportunities available to you to enhance your skills.

For PhD Students

You are encouraged to take all or part of the PG Certificate in Transferable Skills organised in the Science Faculty.
The graduate school has advice for Professional Development for Postgraduate Researchers.
More generic skills training is available from the Research Students Skills Programme.
 
PhD students also have access to the Wolfson Research Exchange, on floor 3 of the Main Library: this is a dedicated space for the Warwick researcher. The Research Exchange’s website has a wealth of materials including “Research Match” where you can upload your profile details and find other researchers at the University of Warwick. The Exchange runs a number of networking and other events for the postgraduate researcher. The Library (postgraduate site) also contains a wealth of other information and has links to the PG Hub in Senate House (adjacent to the Arts Centre) which is a space for Warwick postgraduate taught and research students to access support and to work and share experiences together in the broadest context of postgraduate life, not just study.
 

For Masters Students
