European Postgraduate Fluid Dynamics Conference

7-9 July 2026, The University of Warwick

The 11th edition of the European Postgraduate Fluid Dynamics Conference (EPFDC11) is coming to Warwick in 2026 - the first instalment in the EPFDC since 2019 and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Join us for engaging talks, poster sessions, and discussion. This student-led conference will foster academic exchange, strengthen networks, and highlight recent innovation in fluid dynamics research. We expect the conference to cover a broad range of areas within applied mathematics that are relevant to fluid dynamics research. This may include mathematical modelling, numerical methods and asymptotics, as well as machine learning and optimisation, all of which connect naturally with the experimental and theoretical work many attendees will be involved in.

The conference will consist of:

  • 3-4 keynote talks by a diverse panel of more senior members of the community, both from academia and industry
  • talks by the postgraduate researchers who are attending
  • a poster presentation session
  • social activities, including a conference dinner

Speakers

  • Dr Michael Negus, Vanellus, CTO
  • Dr Anna Kalogirou, University of Nottingham
  • Dr Eric Hester, University of Bath

Registration (Open)

At registration, attendees will be invited to provide a contributed talk and/or poster, and given the opportunity to provide an accompanying abstract. We hope that the majority of those who sign up will either give a talk, present a poster, or both. We encourage PhD students to join us and we warmly welcome first-time speakers.

The deadline for registration is Monday 15th June.

The registration fees come in two tiers: £46 for those who don't require accommodation, and £110 for those who do. Please note that accommodation is limited and from now will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended that you register soon if you do require this option. See the following section for more details on accommodation.

Accommodation (Available)

The accommodation is on-campus in the Sherbourne residences and booked for the two nights of the conference itself (Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th July). We plan to have a midday start on Tuesday to help with travel arrangements for attendees. We will arrange for an area within the Zeeman building to place luggage throughout the first and last days of the conference. If you do need further accommodation on the preceding or succeeding days, we are encouraging participants to use their own travel grants for this. We recommend staying in central Coventry or Kenilworth. For example, at the time of checking, the Ibis central Coventry hotel can be booked for £67.50 per night. From here, the university is a short bus ride away. Further recommendations and local travel information will be available online.

Securing Your Stay

We want to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Please be aware that from Monday 18th May, our room block will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to reserve your accommodation as soon as possible.

International Visitors

European participants, please be aware that the UK requires visitors to obtain an electronic travel agreement (ETA)Link opens in a new window. Non-European participants, please indicate on registration whether a visa support letter is required. A letter of support of confirmation of attendance can be provided upon request.

Sponsorship

We would like to recognise and thank EUROMECH, the London Mathematical Society (LMS), the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, and the University of Warwick Mathematics Research Centre for their gracious support and the funds provided to support this event.
